About Kate

Kate Thompson is a commercial and editorial photographer based in Richmond, Virginia. Whether it’s a personal project or an assignment, she is a big picture thinker and brings empathy, a quiet thoughtfulness, and 14 years of experience to collaborations large and small. She uses her camera as a way to connect with others, ask questions, and process the world around her. Her editorial and personal work explores the themes of family, design, women’s health, and identity. Her commercial work is largely hospitality-focused with a mix of interiors, food, and architectural imagery.

Kate wandered a circuitous path to photography. She earned a Bachelor’s in Spanish from the University of Virginia followed by a Master’s in Bilingual Speech-Language Pathology (Spanish / English) from Columbia University, ultimately using her linguistic education as a springboard back into exploring the visual world through photography. Kate is the co-founder of Richmond, Virginia design studio Palindrome Creative Co.
